Living Library

Living Libraries was one of the first outcomes of the “Grand treasures” project that was implemented in Latvia by the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO in cooperation with the libraries. Its aim is to lessen stereotypes in local communities through stories and direct contact with people. There has been a guide book elaborated for „Living library” organizers, UNESCO LNC and Pārventa Library who are active participants in this project.

The first event in this context was held in Pārventa’s Library on 19 May 2012. The slogan of Living Library was “books are the people – book + person = personal dialog”. There were 6 “live books” who share their experience with people who were interested in discovering dynamic life stories. Everyone who read one of these 6 books had opportunity to listen to the introduction of the “live book” and further ask any questions.
